Claire Ruth

Claire Ruth found her love of the performing arts early, thanks to her musically inclined family and vibrant hometown of Sacramento. She developed her technique for over 10 years as a competitive dancer at KM Dance Arts, and grew as a vocalist and violinist in the Rio Americano High School band program. Furthering her studies in the Bay Area at Santa Clara University, Claire’s love for the performing arts flourished, and she graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Theatre Arts, Dance Emphasis, and a BS in Biology. In 2023 she celebrated sharing her first choreographic piece, Voyage, with audiences, while also publishing an original article through the Markkula Health Care Ethics internship entitled The Ugly Side of Competitive Dance: Harmful Outcomes and Ethical Concerns

Claire is actively pursuing a career in dance medicine, currently working as a Physical Therapy Aide at Capitol PT and as a dance teacher at multiple studios in Sacramento. In the future she hopes to develop sustainable practices that emphasize injury prevention and recovery in adolescent dancers. Along with her interest in dance medicine, Claire simply loves to perform. Over the holidays she danced in Woodland Opera House’s White Christmas production and she looks forward to more musical theatre endeavors. This is Claire’s second year with Sacramento Dance Theatre, and she is deeply grateful for the continual opportunity to create and perform with such a wonderful group of artists. She looks forward to the rest of the company’s season, in particular their upcoming trip to Edinburgh in August 2025. To her parents, family, friends, and all those that she has had the joy of collaborating with— thank you.
